Police have said they will soon announce their decision regarding videos circulating online showing NRM supporters conducting military-style drills.

The clarification comes at a time when over ten National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters are already facing charges related to unlawful military drills.

Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma said the force is reviewing the matter and will communicate its position in due course.
“I am the spokesperson of the Police. I will communicate the Police’s decision just as I did when the NUP supporters were arrested and charged in court,” Kituuma said.

His comments follow public concern over what many have described as selective enforcement of laws governing military-style training and formations.

Several NUP officials and supporters—including Edward Ssebufu (Eddie Mutwe), Deputy Spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, Phiona Madada, and others—are currently facing charges before the Kawempe Chief Magistrate’s Court.

They are accused of unlawful drilling, conspiracy to commit a felony, and related offenses.

Prosecution alleges that on February 12, 2025, the group and others still at large held a meeting at the NUP offices in Makerere–Kavule where they allegedly engaged in unauthorised military drills, movements, and formations, contrary to Section 45(1)(b) of the Penal Code Act.

The supporters has been on remand for more than two months following her arrest during a birthday parade for NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine).
