The court has dismissed a pre-election petition appeal filed against the Leader of the Opposition (LoP), Joel Ssenyonyi, and seven other respondents, including the Electoral Commission.

The ruling, delivered by Justice Collins Acellam, brings to a close a legal challenge that sought to nullify the nominations of several candidates contesting for the Nakawa Division West parliamentary seat.

The petitioner, Bwowe Ivan, challenged the nomination of Joel Ssenyonyi and six other respondents on a technical ground, arguing that the candidates had incorrectly completed their nomination papers.

He claimed they listed the constituency as “Nakawa West” instead of its official name, “Nakawa Division West.”

Ivan maintained that the use of what he described as a “non-existent” constituency name rendered the nominations invalid and should therefore be nullified.
