Muwanga Kivumbi arrested

Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, the National Unity Platform (NUP) Vice President for Buganda and Member of Parliament for Butambala County, has been arrested in connection with recent political violence in Butambala District.

Kivumbi, who also serves as the NUP President for Buganda Region, was apprehended last Wednesday and is currently being held in police custody.

The arrest was confirmed by Lydia Tumushabe, the Katonga Region Police Spokesperson, who stated that investigations are ongoing. She added that Kivumbi would be presented in court at the appropriate time.

“The Uganda Police Force confirms the arrest of Hon. Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, the Butambala County legislator. He is currently in police custody and will be arraigned in court in due course,” Tumushabe said.

She clarified that Kivumbi’s arrest is linked to recent incidents of political unrest in Butambala District.

“The arrest is in connection with the recent incidents of political violence in Butambala District,” Tumushabe added.

While police have not disclosed specific allegations at this time, they indicated that more details will be shared as investigations continue.

Kivumbi, a prominent figure in the opposition NUP, is well-known for his leadership role as the party’s president for the Buganda region.
