The National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Ronald Balimwezo Nsubuga has been declared the Mayor of Kampala City.

Balimwezo won the Kampala mayoral race with 141,220 votes, defeating incumbent mayor Elias Lukwago, who contested on the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) ticket.

Other contestants in the race included Naggayi Nabillah Sempala, Beatrice Mao of the Democratic Party (DP), Ibrahim Kasozi Biribawa of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Eddie Bazira Kibalama, and Jothan Yamureebire.

Nsubuga polled 43,615, Erias Lukwago emerged third after garnering  41,915 votes while Beatrice Mao  got 2,162 votes.

Balimwezo is a seasoned politician and former legislator, having previously served in Parliament. He is widely known for his long-standing involvement in Kampala city politics and opposition activism, as well as his advocacy on governance, urban development, and accountability.

His victory is seen as a significant boost for the National Unity Platform in the capital and underscores the party’s growing influence in urban politics. Supporters have credited his win to a strong grassroots campaign and voter desire for change in city leadership.
