President-elect Yoweri Museveni has pledged to prioritise peace, unity, and discipline in governance following his seventh election as President of Uganda.
“On Sunday, January 18, I formally received the declaration of my re-election as President of Uganda. I thank God, Maama Janet, the NRM members, our leaders, institutions, and all Ugandans who stood for peace and stability,” Museveni said.
He said that in this new kisanja, the government’s priorities are clear: safeguarding peace and security, eradicating household poverty, strengthening national unity, enforcing discipline in governance, and supporting wealth creators to grow the economy.
“Uganda will remain peaceful, stable, and focused on progress,” he added.
On January 17, 2026, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Justice Simon Byabakama, declared the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, winner of the 2026 general elections.
Museveni defeated seven other presidential contenders, including Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine of the National Unity Platform (NUP); Elton Joseph Mabirizi of the Conservative Party (CP); and Robert Kasibante of the National Peasants Party (NPP).
Other candidates in the race were Nathan Nandala Mafabi of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC); Mugisha Gregg Muntu of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT); Munyagwa Mubarak Sserunga of the Common Man’s Party (CMP); and Frank Bulira Kabinga of the Revolutionary People’s Party (RPP).
According to official results, Museveni garnered 7,946,772 votes, followed by Kyagulanyi with 2,741,238 votes. Nandala Mafabi received 209,039 votes, while Mugisha Muntu polled 59,276 votes. Robert Kasibante received 33,444 votes, Elton Joseph Mabirizi 32,458 votes, Munyagwa Mubarak Sserunga 31,666 votes, and Frank Bulira Kabinga garnered 45,959 votes.
