The Tororo Chief Magistrate’s Court has dismissed an application from Sarah Achieng Opendi, the incumbent Woman Member of Parliament for Tororo District, who sought a recount of votes in 11 polling stations.
The court’s ruling effectively upholds Angella Akoth as the duly elected Woman MP for the district.
Delivered on Tuesday morning by Chief Magistrate Irene Nambatya, the decision was based on the finding that the integrity of the disputed ballot boxes had been compromised, making a recount impossible.
Magistrate Nambatya noted that two of the 11 ballot boxes had broken seals, while four others showed clear evidence of tampering.
She emphasized that once the integrity of the ballot boxes is questioned, a recount is no longer viable, as the results would be deemed unreliable.
Opendi’s application had cited alleged irregularities and discrepancies during the vote tallying at the Tororo Electoral Commission offices on January 15, 2026.
