The Army Council has elected 10 representatives to Parliament ahead of the 2026–2031 term.
The election exercise was presided over by Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), at the Land Forces Headquarters in Bombo, Luweero District.
Chaired by President Yoweri Museveni, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the Army Council convened earlier today at Bombo Military Barracks.
The members of the Defence Forces Council include members of the UPDF High Command, officers who were senior members of the army as of January 26, 1986, chiefs and directors of services, commandants of training institutions, brigade and battalion commanders, and officers commanding equivalent units of the Defence Forces. Other members include the Defence Forces Sergeant Major and regional reserve force commanders under the Reserve Forces.
According to the election results announced by Kateeba Tumusiime Diana, the Returning Officer for the election of Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) representatives to Parliament, those elected are Lt Gen Sam Okiding, Deputy Commander of the Defence Forces; Lt Gen Sam Kavuma, Deputy Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation and Lt Gen James Mugira, Managing Director of the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC).
Others include; Maj Gen Henry Masiko, Joint Staff Political Commissar; Maj Gen James Kinalwa, Joint Staff Human Resource Management; Maj Gen Joseph Ssemwanga, Deputy Commander Land Forces; Brig Gen David Gonyi, Chief of Staff Air Force; Col Night Ikiriza (female) from the Special Forces Command (SFC); Col Sylvia Meeme (female) from the Military Police; and Col Christine Nekesa (female) from the Air Force.
