One person has been seriously injured after police intervened in violent clashes between two families near Buginyanya Primary School in Bulambuli District.
The conflict arose following the death of a man identified only as Sam, whose body was reportedly found in the home of a woman only known as Suzan.
Preliminary reports indicate that Suzan had been living with Sam for about five years in the house of her late father, Yokowakim Nandala. About three weeks ago, Sam died under unclear circumstances. It is alleged that Suzan locked the body inside the house before leaving to marry another man.
Relatives of the deceased became concerned after not seeing him for several days. Upon discovering his death and that his body remained in the house, they confronted Suzan, suspecting foul play. The confrontation escalated into violent clashes.
Wilson Madese, a neighbour, said angry relatives began destroying houses and banana plantations, accusing Suzan of killing Sam.
Police were called to restore order, but the situation turned chaotic, prompting officers to fire shots. One person was struck by a bullet and rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Police is yet to comment of the matter.
