Parliament has approved the appointment of Jessica Alupo as the Vice President of Uganda.
Earlier this week, President Yoweri Museveni appointed Alupo to the position, in accordance with Article 108(2) of the Constitution, which requires parliamentary approval by a simple majority.
Alupo previously served as Vice President from June 2021 to May 2026. Prior to that, she was Minister of Education and Sports from 2011 to 2016, and State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs from 2009 to 2011.
The motion for her approval was moved by Ephraim Kamuntu, the newly appointed Minister for Internal Affairs.
Kamuntu described Alupo as a determined scholar who values continuous learning in both formal and informal settings, noting that her vast educational qualifications make her well-suited for the role.
The motion was seconded by Kampala Central MP, Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, said Alupo is a leader of proven competence, integrity, and dedication who deserves to continue serving as Vice President.
Alupo, who also serves as the Woman Member of Parliament for Katakwi District, has built a reputation as a disciplined and results-oriented leader. Over the years, she has played a key role in shaping Uganda’s education sector, particularly during her tenure as Minister of Education and Sports, where she oversaw several policy reforms and institutional strengthening efforts.
She is widely regarded for her calm leadership style and ability to navigate complex political and administrative challenges. Her background in education and governance has positioned her as a strong advocate for human capital development and youth empowerment.
Born in Katakwi District, Alupo holds multiple academic qualifications, including degrees in education and strategic studies. Her commitment to academic excellence and leadership development has often been highlighted by colleagues as one of her strongest attributes.
Her reappointment signals continuity and stability within the executive, especially at a time when government is focused on service delivery, economic transformation, and strengthening public institutions.
As Vice President, Alupo is expected to continue supporting the President in overseeing government business and representing Uganda in both local and international engagements, while also advancing key national priorities.
