President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Dennis Katungi as the substantive deputy executive director of the Uganda Media Centre, ending years of acting service in the role.
Katungi, who serves as head of communications and media relations at the government communications agency, has been holding the position in an acting capacity since the death of Col. Shaban Bantariza in 2020.
In a May 30, 2026 response to a recommendation by the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Museveni said he had no objection to the appointment.
The President subsequently directed the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance to effect the appointment through the office of the State House Comptroller.
In a communication, Comptroller Jane Barekye instructed the ministry to implement the directive, noting that the position falls under its mandate and that Katungi is already serving within the department.
Katungi’s confirmation formally fills a key leadership position at the Media Centre, which plays a central role in coordinating government communication and public information.
