The Billboard-charting Ugandan saxophonist’s latest release, out October 19, blends African influences with smooth jazz to deliver a message of faith, resilience and fresh beginnings.
Ugandan saxophonist and composer Isaiah Katumwa is set to release My Hope, a new instrumental single that draws on personal experience to explore resilience, faith and the possibility of new beginnings.
Released on October 19, 2026, the song continues Katumwa’s exploration of Afro Smooth Jazz Fusion, combining African musical influences with soulful melodies and contemporary jazz arrangements.
For Katumwa, the release is more than an addition to his catalogue. It reflects his understanding of life as a journey marked by uncertainty, personal challenges and opportunities for growth.
“Over the years, I have come to understand that hope is not the absence of difficulties,” Katumwa says. “It is the decision to keep believing, even when circumstances do not give you every reason to. Life has its seasons, and not every season is easy. But I believe there is always a reason to look forward with faith and expectation.”
Music for Uncertain Times
The release comes as Katumwa seeks to use his music to connect with listeners beyond entertainment, offering a message that resonates with people navigating difficult circumstances and personal transitions.
Economic pressures, uncertainty and individual struggles can leave many people searching for reassurance, and the saxophonist believes music can provide a means of encouragement across different backgrounds and cultures.
“We are living in a time when so many people are carrying different burdens, sometimes silently,” he says. “We may come from different backgrounds, cultures and experiences, but the need for hope is something we all share.”
He adds that the song is intended to remind listeners that difficult experiences do not necessarily determine what comes next.
“Their story is not necessarily finished. There can still be something beautiful ahead,” Katumwa says.
The message also reflects a period of personal and artistic renewal for the musician, who sees each stage of his career as an opportunity to learn, evolve and explore new creative directions.
An African Sound With Global Appeal
At the heart of My Hope is Katumwa’s signature Afro Smooth Jazz Fusion style, which brings together African influences, expressive saxophone melodies and contemporary smooth jazz.
As an instrumental composition, the song relies on melody and musical expression rather than lyrics to communicate its message. This leaves room for listeners to interpret the music through their own experiences.
Katumwa believes this ability to transcend language is one of instrumental music’s greatest strengths.
“Instrumental music has a beautiful way of reaching people beyond language. Someone listening in Uganda, America, Europe or anywhere else may be experiencing something completely different, yet the same melody can speak to them personally,” he says.
The approach reflects his broader artistic vision: creating music that retains its African identity while reaching audiences across international markets.
Building on Years of Musical Experience
Katumwa’s latest release builds on a career that has established him as one of Uganda’s internationally recognised jazz musicians. As a Billboard-charting artist, saxophonist and composer, he has continued to explore the relationship between African musical traditions and contemporary jazz.
Beyond recording and performing, he has contributed to the development of Uganda’s jazz scene through initiatives such as his annual Jazz Festival and his television programme, Jazz with Isaiah. He also works in artist development, supporting the growth of musical talent.
Rather than treating past achievements as the culmination of his journey, Katumwa views them as a foundation for future work.
“My journey has taught me that we never stop growing, learning or discovering new possibilities. Every chapter prepares us for another,” he says.
He describes My Hope as a message directed both at his audience and himself, reflecting the importance of remaining open to change and new opportunities.
A Message Beyond the Music
With its melodic approach and uplifting mood, My Hope seeks to offer listeners more than a moment of musical escape. Its central theme is the possibility of moving forward despite uncertainty, while maintaining faith in what lies ahead.
For Katumwa, that message is inseparable from his continuing evolution as an artist — one who draws on personal experience while seeking to create music that connects with a wider human experience.
The single will be available on digital music platforms worldwide from October 19, 2026.
Guided by the artistic identity “African, Smooth and Divine,” Katumwa continues to draw on his Ugandan roots while exploring a sound designed to cross cultural boundaries. With My Hope, he turns that musical identity towards a message of perseverance: even through difficult seasons, the possibility of a new beginning remains.
