Dolwe Island in Namayingo district is positioning itself as one of Uganda’s emerging eco-tourism destinations as stakeholders intensify efforts to attract domestic and international travellers through experiential tourism and digital destination marketing.
The latest push saw La Fang Eco Resort host a familiarisation tour for journalists, digital content creators, influencers and photographers, who spent several days exploring the island’s attractions and documenting its tourism potential.
The initiative is part of a broader campaign to raise the profile of the little-known island on the eastern shores of Lake Victoria, near the borders of Kenya and Tanzania, by leveraging digital storytelling and social media to reach new audiences.
Speaking during the tour, La Fang Eco Resort General Manager Duncan Wandera said the resort was increasingly turning to authentic travel experiences and content creation to showcase the destination.
“We are delighted to host some of Uganda’s leading content creators and media professionals to experience Dolwe Island firsthand. Their stories, photographs and videos will help introduce more people to this incredible destination while showcasing the unique experiences that La Fang Eco Resort offers,” Wandera said.
During the visit, the participants experienced a range of tourism activities including quad biking, boat cruises on Lake Victoria, guided island tours, swimming, farm visits, sunset photography, karaoke and the resort’s signature “breakfast in the bush” experience.
The group also toured the resort’s eco-friendly accommodation, whose cottages were constructed around naturally occurring rock formations and indigenous trees as part of a sustainability model designed to minimise environmental disruption.
As part of the campaign, the visiting team handed over Explore Uganda branded promotional materials to support destination marketing efforts.
Tourism promoters believe experiential travel combined with digital content has become one of the most effective ways of influencing travel decisions, particularly among younger travellers seeking authentic destinations away from traditional tourism circuits.
Content creator Simple Gladys described Dolwe Island as an undiscovered destination with enormous tourism potential.
“La Fang Eco Resort is a hidden gem. From the warm hospitality to the exciting activities and the beautiful views, it offers the perfect escape for anyone looking for relaxation and adventure in one place,” she said.
Influencer Queen Tracy Nakabugo praised the resort’s tranquil environment and accommodation, saying the island offers visitors an opportunity to reconnect with nature.
“The rooms are beautifully designed, the environment is calm, and the scenery is breathtaking. It’s the perfect place to relax, recharge and enjoy nature,” she said.
Located on the eastern side of Lake Victoria, Dolwe Island remains one of Uganda’s lesser-known tourism destinations despite its unique rock formations, scenic landscapes and rich cultural heritage.
Tourism stakeholders say investments in eco-friendly accommodation and destination branding could help diversify Uganda’s tourism product beyond traditional wildlife attractions by promoting island tourism and community-based experiences.
The familiarisation tour forms part of La Fang Eco Resort’s wider strategy to establish itself among Uganda’s leading eco-tourism facilities while contributing to the growth of sustainable tourism in the country through conservation, responsible travel and local economic development.
