Two children have been stabbed to death and three others injured in an attack at Kalungu Bunga, Ggaba Parish, in Kampala’s Makindye Division.
The incident occurred at about 4am today, August 20, 2026, prompting police to open investigations into murder, attempted murder and arson.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police South, the attack was discovered after a housemaid was awakened by an alarm and cries for help coming from the main house.
“The maid immediately opened the house and discovered several children with severe stab wounds. Khadija Daizy, a 14-year-old female juvenile, was found dead in her bedroom,” ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, said.
Seven-year-old Hawa Dalena later succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment at Nsambya Hospital.
Three other children, aged 13, eight and five, survived the attack and were rushed to hospital for medical attention.
Police have identified the suspect as Namayo Dorothy, a 43-year-old Kenyan national and mother of the children. She was also found injured and is currently admitted to Mulago National Referral Hospital under police guard.
During the incident, a Toyota Hiace vehicle parked at the premises was set on fire and completely burnt.
“The Police Fire Prevention and Rescue Services responded and extinguished the fire. A jerrycan suspected to have contained petrol was recovered from the scene,” Owoyesigyire said.
Police homicide detectives, Scene of Crime Officers and Fire and Rescue personnel examined and documented the scene, recovering exhibits for forensic examination.
“The bodies of the deceased juveniles, Khadija Daizy and Hawa Dalena, were conveyed to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem examinations,” Owoyesigyire said.
He said the case had been registered at Kabalagala Police Station and investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and the motive.
“Police have recorded statements from the reporter and relevant witnesses, while the suspect remains under police guard as inquiries continue,” Owoyesigyire said.
