The National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate for the Kawempe North by-election, Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola, has been arrested shortly after his nomination. The political party confirmed his arrest in an official statement.
According to the statement, Counsel Nalukoola was arrested by the Joint Anti-Terrorism Task Force of Uganda (JATT).
“JATT operatives have brutally arrested our candidate, Elias Nalukoola, immediately after his nomination. There are multiple reports of violence against the people. Regime security operatives are on the ground with drones, targeting several of our leaders, comrades, and journalists covering the brutal scenes,” the statement read.
