Prominent business tycoon and Ruparelia Group Chairman, H.E. Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, has raised an alarm over a scam involving fraudsters using artificial intelligence (AI) to mimic his voice in videos circulating online.

In a message to his networks, friends, and business associates, Dr. Sudhir cautioned the public to remain vigilant, warning that scammers are impersonating him for unclear motives. A video shared online appears to show him speaking, but he has confirmed that his voice was artificially manipulated using AI.

“Please be careful, it is a scam,” Dr. Sudhir warned in a WhatsApp message to Nsubuga Kywelyanga Muzanganda while sharing a link to the fraudulent video.

With advancements in AI technology, deepfake audio and video scams have been on the rise globally, allowing criminals to impersonate high-profile individuals using sophisticated tools.

Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, who also serves as Nepal’s Consul to Uganda, has called on law enforcement agencies to investigate the matter and take appropriate action to protect the public from such fraudulent schemes.

Authorities and cybersecurity experts urge individuals to verify any suspicious messages, especially those soliciting financial transactions, and to report fraudulent activity immediately.

This latest scam underscores the growing need for digital literacy and cybersecurity awareness in an era where AI-powered deception is becoming increasingly sophisticated.
