President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni have publicly apologized for mistakes made during their leadership, particularly those affecting the people of Buganda and other regions of Uganda.

The apology was delivered during the closing ceremony of a five-day spiritual gathering that began on May 19, 2025, hosted by their daughter, Pastor Patience Rwabwogo, the lead pastor of Covenant Nations Church. The event, held at Kololo Independence Grounds, was themed “The Crossing.”

“As top leaders of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), we take responsibility for all the mistakes made by ourselves, our agents, and our representatives,” they said in a joint statement. “We therefore stand here to repent and ask for your forgiveness—especially from the people of Buganda and the entire country. We pray for restoration and renewed favour.”

They added: “May God restore the favour we once had with the people, and reconnect us to our original national unity and unwavering commitment to the social and economic transformation of our country.”

President Museveni also praised the church for what he called a remarkable shift—from being part of the problem to becoming a cornerstone of peace, responsibility, and spiritual transformation in Uganda.

President Museveni has led Uganda since 1986, following a successful bush war that brought him to power. Under his leadership, the country has undergone significant transformation, particularly in areas of security and economic development. Today, Uganda stands out in the region as a stable and increasingly influential nation.
