The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed that nominations for Members of Parliament representing Special Interest Groups (SIGs) will take place on October 22 and 23, 2025.
The nomination exercise will be held at the Commission’s headquarters in Kampala, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on both days. It will cover four SIG categories: older persons, persons with disabilities, workers, and youth.
Justice Simon Byabakama, Chairperson of the EC, announced that the Commission is fully prepared to conduct the nominations. He urged all aspiring candidates to strictly follow the established requirements.
“We call upon all stakeholders in the electoral process to take note of these dates and ensure compliance with the nomination requirements and procedures,” Byabakama stated.
He emphasized that all candidates must be Ugandan citizens, registered voters, and meet all eligibility conditions as outlined in the EC’s nomination guidelines. These guidelines are available at the Commission’s headquarters and on its official website.
The announcement was made in line with Section 8 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, which mandates the EC to organize elections for Special Interest Group representatives.
Byabakama noted that the nominations represent a significant milestone in the preparation for the 2026 General Elections, and reassured the public of the EC’s commitment to delivering a regular, free, and fair election.
He also called on political parties and interest groups to cooperate with the Commission to ensure a smooth and transparent nomination process.
