In a statement shared on his official Instagram account, the family announced:

“It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning. While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace.”

They added: “Though our hearts are broken, we are deeply grateful for the life he lived and for the unforgettable moments we were blessed to share with him. The love and support he received from fans around the world meant so much to him, and our family is truly thankful for it. To him, you were not just fans, you were his friends.”

The statement also acknowledged public concern following reports of his recent hospitalization: “We are aware that many of you learned of his recent hospitalization, and we are genuinely grateful for the prayers and support you extended during this time. As we navigate this loss, we kindly request privacy for our family.”

Norris reportedly died on March 19, 2026, in Kauai following a medical emergency. The family did not disclose the exact cause of death.

Born Carlos Ray Norris on March 10, 1940, he rose from humble beginnings to become a global icon in martial arts and action cinema. A U.S. Air Force veteran and undefeated karate champion, Norris later founded the Chun Kuk Do martial arts system before transitioning to film.

His breakthrough came in The Way of the Dragon, where he starred opposite Bruce Lee in a now-iconic fight scene set in Colosseum — a moment that helped launch his Hollywood career.

Throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, Norris became one of Hollywood’s most bankable action stars, leading films such as Good Guys Wear Black, A Force of One, and Lone Wolf McQuade. He reached peak popularity with the Missing in Action series, portraying a Vietnam War POW on daring rescue missions, and later starred in hits like The Delta Force and Invasion U.S.A.

He also found enduring success on television with Walker, Texas Ranger, where he played Cordell Walker, a lawman known for blending martial arts with frontier justice. The series cemented his reputation as a symbol of toughness and moral clarity.

In later years, Norris gained a new generation of fans through internet culture, becoming the subject of widely shared “Chuck Norris facts” memes that celebrated his larger-than-life persona. He continued to make occasional film appearances, including in The Expendables 2, while remaining active in fitness, writing, and public speaking.

Just days before his death, on his 86th birthday, Norris shared a workout video on Instagram captioned, “I don’t age. I level up,” reflecting the resilience and humor that defined his public image.

Norris is survived by five children from three relationships, including sons Mike Norris and Eric Norris, both of whom pursued careers in film and television. He also leaves behind his wife, Gena O’Kelly, with whom he had twins.

Tributes have poured in from fans and public figures across the globe, many honoring his lasting influence on martial arts, action filmmaking, and popular culture.

From karate champion to Hollywood icon, Chuck Norris leaves behind a legacy defined not only by his on-screen strength, but by the discipline, resilience, and philosophy he championed throughout his life.
