ABC Capital Bank Limited has unveiled a new growth strategy anchored on digital transformation and expansion into retail banking, as it seeks to consolidate recent gains and position itself for long-term sustainability.
The strategy follows a strong financial performance in 2025, where the bank recorded a 285 per cent increase in profit after tax, signalling a successful turnaround and transition into a growth phase. The performance, bank officials say, reflects a disciplined focus on operational efficiency, strengthened corporate governance, and customer-centred innovation.
Chief executive officer Chris Kabagambe said the bank has moved beyond recovery and is now firmly on a sustainable growth trajectory, backed by a solid institutional foundation.
“This performance is more than a financial milestone. It is evidence that the foundations we have built are strong and that ABC Capital Bank is well positioned for sustainable growth,” Kabagambe said.
He noted that the bank’s 2026–2028 strategic plan is aimed at strengthening its market position through expanded access to inclusive financial services, deepening its footprint in SME banking, and accelerating digital adoption.
“As we reach the mid-term of our 2026–2028 strategic cycle, we are focused on expanding access to inclusive financial services, strengthening our leadership in SME banking, and accelerating digital transformation,” he added.
ABC Capital Bank has over the years built a niche as a key financial partner for small and medium-sized enterprises, a sector widely regarded as the backbone of Uganda’s economy. The bank now plans to leverage this position to expand into retail and community banking, while continuing to offer tailored financial solutions to entrepreneurs.
Digital transformation remains central to the bank’s next phase of growth. Planned interventions include scaling up digital lending platforms, introducing mobile deposit services, and rolling out electronic banking solutions aimed at extending services to underserved communities.
“Our ambition is to be a trusted financial partner that empowers our customers to achieve their goals while contributing to Uganda’s economic development and financial inclusion agenda,” Kabagambe said.
“The future of banking is digital, customer-focused and inclusive. ABC Capital Bank is committed to leading that future with innovation, integrity and excellence,” he added.
The strategic plan also places emphasis on inclusive banking and structured corporate social responsibility initiatives, aimed at strengthening corporate credibility and improving customer experience through more accessible and modern banking services.
Key priorities under the plan include market expansion, product diversification, and increased focus on retail lending. The bank also intends to develop customer-driven financial solutions that support broader financial inclusion across different segments.
The latest move builds on momentum gained earlier this year, when the bank reported improved profitability, attributed to investments in digital systems, diversified product offerings, and enhanced governance structures.
With renewed focus on innovation, accessibility, and sustainability, ABC Capital Bank is positioning itself to compete more aggressively in Uganda’s evolving banking sector, targeting both businesses and individuals with inclusive financial solutions.
