President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has assented to eight pieces of legislation aimed at strengthening regulation, improving worker protections, and enhancing institutional efficiency across key sectors.

In a statement shared on his official X platform, the President confirmed signing into law the National Drug and Health Products Authority Act, 2026, which broadens regulatory oversight to cover medicines, vaccines, medical devices, diagnostics, cosmetics, and other health-related products. The law is expected to reinforce safety standards and improve public health protection.

Also assented to is the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act, 2026, introducing mandatory energy performance standards, audits, and measures to phase out inefficient technologies as part of efforts to promote sustainable energy use.

The President further signed the Non-Performing Assets Recovery Trust (Repeal) Act, 2024, effectively dissolving the Trust and transferring its responsibilities to the Ministry of Finance. The move is intended to streamline operations and improve financial management.

In the labour sector, the Employment (Amendment) Act, 2025 strengthens protections for domestic workers, casual labourers, and migrant employees, addressing long-standing gaps in employment rights.

Meanwhile, the Forensic and Scientific Analytical Services Act, 2026 seeks to enhance forensic capabilities and improve the handling of scientific evidence within the justice system.

Other laws assented to include the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights (Amendment) Act, 2026, the Public Enterprises Reform and Divestiture (Amendment) Act, 2024, and the Magistrates Courts (Amendment) Act, 2026.

The new legislation signals government’s continued push toward regulatory reform, improved governance, and service delivery across critical sectors in Uganda.
