Uganda Airlines has launched scheduled direct flights to Accra in Ghana and Kigali in Rwanda, in a move aimed at expanding connectivity and boosting trade, tourism and investment across Africa.
The new routes expand the national carrier’s network and provide passengers with more convenient travel options, while strengthening Entebbe International Airport’s position as a regional hub.
The airline said the additional destinations will improve access for business and leisure travellers, with seamless connections to its wider network across Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
The Accra route marks a significant expansion into West Africa, building on the airline’s existing operations in Lagos. The city is a key business, tourism and diplomatic hub, offering new opportunities for trade and investment.
The Kigali route, on the other hand, connects two of East Africa’s fastest-growing economies, enhancing movement between major commercial and tourism centres in the region.
Speaking on the development, Uganda Airlines CEO Ato Girma Wake described the new routes as a major milestone in the airline’s growth strategy.
“The launch of Accra and Kigali marks another key milestone in Uganda Airlines’ expansion. These routes will strengthen commercial and tourism links while offering passengers greater convenience and more travel choices,” Wake said.
He added that the airline remains committed to improving connectivity across the continent and supporting regional integration through reliable air transport.
Beyond passenger travel, the new routes are expected to enhance cargo operations by giving exporters and importers more efficient access to markets in West and East Africa.
The airline said the services will support transportation of fresh produce, manufactured goods and other time-sensitive cargo.
Uganda Airlines noted that the expansion reflects its continued investment in building a stronger African network to support economic growth.
