The Uganda Advertising Association (UAA) has unveiled a new executive council, taking office at a time when the industry is pushing for greater recognition, stronger regulation and professional standards.

Peter Kazibwe, creative director at Maad McCann, takes over as chairman. Kazibwe is one of the region’s leading creatives and was recently named Silverback Creative Director of the Year 2025. He has also served as jury president for the Young Silverbacks and as a juror for the Luum Awards.

Allen Suubi Ssempa was elected vice chairman. A communications strategist with more than 16 years’ experience in public and international relations, Ssempa previously served two terms as secretary general of the Public Relations Association of Uganda.

John Nkore of Fireworks Advertising assumes the role of general secretary, rising from deputy secretary general on the outgoing council. Sidney Nganda of The Partnership is deputy secretary, while Christine Nakabuye of Metropolitan Republic takes on the treasurer role, deputised by Leticia Nakito of Grindstone Advertising.

Susan Ahabwe and Francis Kasura join as council members, representing different agencies within Uganda’s creative sector.

Speaking during the handover, outgoing chairman Rommel Jasi outlined key priorities for the new leadership, including securing statutory recognition for the advertising profession, strengthening self-regulation, and improving professional standards.

He also called for closer collaboration with organisations in marketing, media and public relations to enhance the industry’s influence.

Kazibwe said the new council will focus on strengthening the association’s role in advocacy and industry development.
“Our priority is to position UAA as a platform for advocacy, innovation and professional excellence. The industry has the talent and ambition, but this requires collective action to raise standards and compete globally,” he said.

He added that the council will also focus on growing industry platforms such as the Silverback Awards, which recognise creative excellence in Uganda and across East Africa.
The new council takes office with expectations to steer the next phase of growth, professionalisation and industry coordination.
