The National Unity Platform (NUP) has retained Nakawa West MP Joel Ssenyonyi as the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Parliament.
Ssenyonyi was first appointed to the position on December 22, 2023, by NUP party president Robert Kyagulanyi. He officially assumed office on January 9, 2024, and has now been reappointed to continue serving in the 12th Parliament.
As part of the new opposition leadership structure, Paul Mwiru has been named Chief Opposition Whip, deputized by Harriet Nakwedde.
John Baptist Nambeshe has been appointed Commissioner of Parliament, while George Musisi will serve as Vice Chairperson of the Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE). COSASE itself will be chaired by Nkunyinji Muwadda.
In other key committee appointments, Patrick Nsamba Oshabe has been named Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), with Sarah Lwansasula serving as Vice Chairperson.
Francis Zaake will chair the Government Assurances Committee, deputized by Anna Adeke Ebaju.
Meanwhile, Betty Nambooze has been appointed Chairperson of the Local Government Accounts Committee, with Abed Nasser Mudiobole as her deputy.
The party also named representatives to various international parliamentary bodies. David Kalwanga will represent Uganda at the Pan-African Parliament, while Fortunate Rose Nantongo will serve at the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
Hassan Kirumira has been designated to the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States, while Brenda Nabukenya will represent Uganda at the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The new lineup reflects NUP’s strategy to strengthen its oversight role in Parliament and consolidate its position as the leading opposition force.
