Old Mutual Investment Group Uganda (OMIG) has intensified its Unit Trust campaign aimed at helping Ugandans build wealth through disciplined and professionally managed investments.

Running under the theme “Your Money Is Serious Business,” the campaign seeks to increase public understanding of Unit Trusts and encourage individuals to adopt consistent investing as part of long-term financial planning.

The initiative targets salaried workers, professionals, entrepreneurs and experienced investors looking for structured and reliable ways to grow their money while maintaining visibility and control over their investments.

Unit Trusts are collective investment schemes where funds from multiple investors are pooled and invested in a diversified portfolio. This allows individuals to benefit from professional fund management without directly managing investments themselves.

Uganda’s collective investment sector has seen steady growth in recent years. According to the Capital Markets Authority, the industry had Shs 1.15 trillion in assets under management and 32,998 investor accounts by November 2024.

OMIG, a licensed fund manager, offers a range of Unit Trust products including Money Market, Balanced, Dollar and Umbrella funds.

Speaking about the campaign, OMIG Managing Director Zac Kiseesi said the company is reinforcing its investment offering at a time when Ugandans are becoming more intentional about saving and growing their money.

“Money represents people’s plans, responsibilities and ambitions. It should be managed with discipline and professional oversight. Investing is not only for experts or the wealthy—it is a financial habit that anyone can adopt progressively,” Kiseesi said.

He added that OMIG combines long-standing financial expertise with digital platforms to make investing more accessible and transparent.

“Our objective is to give investors confidence that their money is being managed responsibly while allowing them to track, deposit and withdraw funds conveniently,” he said.

OMIG allows customers to start investing from as little as Shs 100,000. Investors can manage their accounts through the OMIG Wealth App and the Old Mutual online portal, where they can open accounts, make deposits, withdraw funds and monitor performance.

The campaign will also highlight additional protection benefits available to qualifying investors, including education, disability and life-related cover designed to safeguard long-term financial goals.

Kiseesi emphasised that trust remains critical in the investment sector.

“Trust is built through sound governance, transparency and responsible management of funds. We want investors to engage with a regulated institution that has the expertise to support their financial journey,” he said.

The campaign comes at a time of growing interest in Unit Trusts as more Ugandans seek practical ways to grow their wealth.

OMIG said it will simplify technical investment concepts into practical guidance tailored to individuals at different income levels.

Old Mutual Investment Group Uganda is regulated by the Capital Markets Authority and the Uganda Retirement Benefits Regulatory Authority.
