The Uganda Parliamentary Press Association (UPPA) has expressed deep sorrow following the death of BBS TV journalist Joseph Sseruwoza.

Sseruwoza died earlier today at Mulago National Referral Hospital, where he had been admitted with ulcers. His employer however said he died of blood clot.

In a statement, UPPA described his passing as a significant loss to the journalism fraternity, particularly the parliamentary press corps.

“It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that the Uganda Parliamentary Press Association announces the untimely death of our beloved member, Joseph Sseruwoza of BBS TV,” the association said.

Sseruwoza served UPPA as Chief Whip, a role in which he was credited for maintaining discipline and guiding members with dedication and integrity.

Colleagues described him as a steady and dependable figure who led by example both within the press gallery and beyond.

“As UPPA, we have lost a hardworking and disciplined journalist. Joseph was more than a colleague — he was a brother, a mentor, and a guardian of our professional standards,” said Samuel Ibanda Mugabi, the UPPA president.

The association noted that Sseruwoza’s commitment to accurate and ethical reporting from Parliament inspired many young journalists who passed through the press gallery.

He was also praised for executing his duties as Chief Whip with firmness, fairness and respect for all.

UPPA extended condolences to his family, friends and colleagues at BBS TV.

“To the family of Joseph Sseruwoza, the management and staff of BBS TV, and all his friends, we send our heartfelt condolences. May you find strength during this painful time,” Mugabi said.

He added: “We pray that the Almighty God grants his soul eternal rest and gives us the fortitude to bear this loss.”
