Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the founder of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), has dropped Kasambya County MP David Kabanda as the organisation’s Secretary General, replacing him with Tingey County MP Fadil Twalla in a swift leadership shake-up.

The changes, announced via Muhoozi’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, take immediate effect and signal a fresh phase in the outfit’s evolving political structure.

“The new General Secretary of PLU is Hon. Fadil Twalla. I will work closely with him to achieve our objectives. I thank Hon. Kabanda for his three years of excellent service. He set the standard high for the position,” Muhoozi stated.

He directed that a formal handover ceremony be organised without delay, tasking the National Vice Chairperson, Michael Nuwagira, to oversee the transition process.

“The National Vice Chairperson of PLU, Mr Michael Nuwagira, is hereby instructed to organise the handover/takeover ceremony of the position of General Secretary of PLU as soon as possible, from Hon. Kabanda to Hon. Fadil. All PLU ministers and Members of Parliament must attend,” he added.

Kabanda, who has served in the role for three years, built a reputation as one of PLU’s most vocal figures, earning the nickname “Omutume” for his assertive political messaging.

In the same communication, Muhoozi hinted at broader structural adjustments within the organisation but retained several key figures in the leadership hierarchy. Michael Nuwagira remains National Vice Chairperson, while Edwin Karugire, Michael Mawanda, and Andrew Mwenda continue to serve on the PLU Central Committee.

The reshuffle comes at a time when PLU is steadily expanding its footprint, positioning itself as an influential force within Uganda’s shifting political landscape.
