Several people have died and dozens of homes have been destroyed following heavy rainfall that triggered mudslides in Benet Sub-county, Kween District.
The disaster struck after hours of continuous downpour, leaving many residents displaced and property buried under mud and debris. Atleast nine people are reported to have died.
Three confirmed deaths (children) were from one family. Uganda Red Cross volunteers are on the ground conducting assessments, and a more detailed report will be shared as soon as possible.
In a related incident, a separate mudslide in Yatui, Kween District, claimed six lives last night. Reports indicate that roads and farmlands have also been severely damaged, disrupting transport and livelihoods.
