Uganda’s qualifiers for the 2026 NCBA Golf Series have ended, with Michael Tumusiime and Joseph Cwinyaai earning trips to Nairobi to represent the country at the regional grand finale in November.

Tumusiime emerged the overall winner of the second Ugandan qualifier after scoring 105 nett at Entebbe Club on October 3, completing Uganda’s qualification events for this year’s series.

He joins Cwinyaai, who won the opening Ugandan leg at Uganda Golf Club on June 13 after carding two-under 70.

The two golfers have earned all-expenses-paid trips to Nairobi, including air travel, accommodation and meals, where they will compete against qualifiers from across East Africa at Karen Country Club on November 27.

NCBA Bank Uganda chief executive officer Mark Muyobo said the tournament was part of the bank’s efforts to promote golf and create opportunities for Ugandan golfers to compete beyond the local circuit.

“Our commitment to golf goes beyond the tournaments. Through the NCBA Golf Series and Junior Golf Series, we are contributing to the growth of the sport by providing platforms for both established and emerging golfers to develop their skills, gain competitive experience and access opportunities beyond their local courses,” Muyobo said.

He said the bank’s golf programme was also intended to support young and emerging talent by providing them with competitive exposure.

The bank’s involvement in golf is part of its wider “Change the Story” campaign, which it says seeks to combine its sporting activities with community initiatives.

Ahead of the Entebbe tournament, NCBA partnered with Vision Child Healthcare and Education Initiative to donate 50 household water filters to vulnerable families at Kasenyi Landing Site.

The initiative is intended to improve access to safe drinking water and reduce exposure to waterborne diseases among fishing communities that depend largely on untreated lake water.

Muyobo commended Entebbe Club, the participating golfers, partners and the NCBA team for supporting the Ugandan qualifiers.

He also urged the two qualifiers to carry Uganda’s flag with pride when they travel to Kenya.

“To our qualifiers heading to Nairobi, we wish you the very best as you take on the next stage. And to everyone pursuing their ambitions, on the golf course, in business or in life, our message is simple: Go for it,” he said.

The Nairobi finale will bring together qualifiers from participating East African markets to compete for honours and celebrate the growth of golf in the region.
