Kalangala District Woman MP, Hellen Nakimuli, passed away yesterday at Alexandria Specialized Hospital along Yusuf Lule Road in Kampala.
Nakimuli died shortly after undergoing what had initially been reported as a successful surgical operation. Earlier, the promising legislator had driven herself to the health facility for the procedure.
According to her personal assistant, only identified as Farouk, Nakimuli called him on Sunday morning to inform him that she had gone to the hospital for the operation.
“I came and found her at the facility. She was taken to the theatre at noon, and the operation lasted about three hours,” he said.
He added that doctors later informed them that the surgery had been successful, but the patient was not responding, prompting them to request a family member to assess the situation.
The personal assistant claims they were later allowed into the theatre, where they witnessed efforts to resuscitate her, but she had already passed away.
“We cannot confirm what she was suffering from because we are waiting for a postmortem report to determine the exact cause of death,” he said.
